Top Marks

There are a range of games available on this website. The games are aimed at the correct age groups and cover a range of topics. The children love to play these games in class and have been accessing the number and pattern games this term.

Instagram

A lovely Instagram account to follow is ‘The Five Minute Mum’, she has lots of quick, simple games and ideas for activities to support children’s learning.

Sensory Play

To make playdough and use a rolling pin, knife fork etc. to cut and manipulate the play dough. Use to form letters, numbers and write their names etc. Have trays of flour, rice, shaving foam, foam, bubbles in water etc. Play relaxing music on Youtube and use material and textures to calm. Make musical instruments with lots of ideas online.

Speech and Language

Turn taking games. Prepositions eg. Can you put the bear under the table? Etc. Instruction following using two or three steps eg. Can you clap your hands and then touch your toes. Continue to use visuals and model language. Continue to encourage your child to request what they want in as much detail as needed.

Mathematics

Please can you support your child with the following concepts which we have been working on in school; counting, ordering numbers, one more, one less, 2D shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle),

Number- Can you count to 10? Can you count to 20? Give your child groups of objects to count eg teddies, Lego bricks, sweeties etc. Can you set up a picnic for the toys? How many plates do you need? How many cups? Etc. Can you build a tower? How many blocks have you used?

There are lots of lovely number songs on YouTube which the children love to sing along with eg ten green bottles, five fat sausages, five little firemen. Use these to discuss the concept of one less.

Shape- Can you make a shape picture? Can you find shapes around your house?

Measure- Can you make a snake out of play dough? Can you build a tower? Can you draw a picture of a tree? Can you look at the food in the kitchen? Are the packets heavy or light? When carrying out activities, use vocabulary with your child such as bigger, smaller, taller, and shorter.

Literacy

Role play- Using costumes, figures and dolls to encourage imaginary play.

Speaking and listening games- Simple instruction games such as Simon says are easy ways to encourage your child to speak clearly, listen carefully and follow instructions. Try to give the children two or even three step instructions to follow eg Simon says find a red crayon and draw an apple, jump up twice and clap your hands etc.

Writing- Can you practice writing your name? Pretend to write (mark making). Sensory trays of letter formation using rice, sand, foam and flour. They really enjoy doing this in class!

Stories- Share your favourite stories, ask questions about what is happening in the story, what do the children think will happen next? Why? Who is your favourite character?

The letter sounds which the children have been working on in The Rainbow Rooms:

  • Group 1- s a t i p n
  • Group 2- c k e h r m
  • Group 3- g o u l f b

You can access the jolly phonics song on YouTube.

Can the children identify the letters? What sound does this letter make? Can they have a go at writing the letter using sensory trays or felt tips etc?

Welsh songs they enjoy singing:

Bore da ffrindiau

  • Lliwiau’r enfys
  • Clap clap 1, 2, 3

We hope that you find this information useful and look forward to seeing you all back in school very soon.

Kind regards,

Miss Khakshour, Mrs Morris and Mrs Brown J
